Lovebox Festival

I went to the Lovebox Festival for the whole weekend just gone (15th to 17th June) and I think it was well worth the money for all that there was to do and see there.

These are the acts I personally went to see, some I watched the whole performance, and some I only saw part of it:

  • Roska + Ruby Goe + Mz Bratt
  • N-Type + SP:MC
  • Marcus Nasty + Rankin + Shantie
  • Ms Dynamite
  • Madeon
  • Crystal Castles
  • P Money + Plastician
  • Magnetic Man
  • Hot Chip
  • Boy Better Know
  • Stooshe
  • Maverick Sabre
  • Emeli Sandé
  • Kelis
  • Josh You Are
  • Little Boots
  • Sam Sparro
  • The Rapture
  • Jaime Ritchie
  • Mika
  • Lana Del Rey
  • Chaka Khan
  • Grace Jones

Everybody I saw was rather enjoyable, but highlights for me were; dancing and jumping about in the drum and bass tent (where the artists I've listed on the first four bullet points performed), being at the equally as energetic show for Crystal Castles, watching the wonderful and cute new girlband Stooshe (who I'm seeing again tomorrow at another show), seeing old fave of mine Kelis performing classics and covers, watching my favourite new singer at the moment Lana Del Rey sing so elegantly, and to top it all off, Grace Jones finished the whole weekend and she was just so crazy wonderful with her crazy costumes and disco hats! And yes, it was wonderful to see her in the flesh doing that infamous hula hoop routine to "Slave to the Rhythm".

Back!

Hi all. Sorry for the lack of posts. I guess I was just going through a serious writer's block and got a bit bored of this blog. But I've now decided to have another crack at it, so here goes. For this post, I shall share with you some great websites that I have discovered lately:

That'll be all for now. I'll try and blog more interesting stuff later :)

R.I.P Whitney Houston

I was staying up late last night on my computer (as usual) when I suddenly saw the news first on Facebook. What a shock, I totally didn't see it coming! She was only 48 and way too young to go. What a waste of talent. She was one of those stars who was very iconic and popular, and her many great 80s and 90s hits still sound as fresh today as they did back then, and will certainly continue to do so. May she rest in peace, and my thoughts are with her family.

My all-time favourite song of hers:

Pencil Vs Camera

I was just browsing DeviantArt yesterday when I stumbled across this amazing piece of artwork:

Normally I see masses of brilliant art on dA, but this piece in particular took my interest, and I'm quite gobsmacked by the originality of it. It's one thing to be very skilful in both drawing and photography, but it's another thing to be able to combine them in such a unique and astonishing way like this. The talented artist who created this is called Ben Heine, and you can see more of his work in the Pencil vs Camera series as well as others at his DeviantArt page.

P.S. Happy New Year everyone! Hope you had a good Christmas and New Year. And, sorry for not updating much lately, but I'll be keeping it up more this year :)

Recent purchases I've been rating

Tights

I'm really loving the new tights that are around at the moment, and I decided I'd jump on the trendy bandwagon and bag myself a few. These are what I bought this week, which are the bow suspender tights from Topshop (£8.50), stripey tights from Tesco (£6) and star tights from Primark (£2.50).

False Eyelashes

I've noticed how most of the girls on The Only Way is Essex like to wear false lashes every day, and I think it looks really pretty. I don't think I could though because I'm not that great at putting them on, so I'd always need much extra time in the mornings. But when I do wear them it does make a nice change and I always get a compliment for them. I these No7 lashes cost £7.50 from Boots, but I bought them for £2.50 as discounted by a No7 Boots voucher I had.

Stargazer Nail Polishes

These are the the 3 nail polishes that I bought from a 3 for £5 offer (normally £2.50 each) from Stargazer at BINTM Live.

I love the holographic look to this 307 colour. It's very different to any other nail polish I've owned, and it makes a nice change from block colours. I have to say, this is my favourite purchase out of all the 3.

I was quite disappointed in this 131 shade, as it's just a solid purple colour when I thought it would be a slightly holographic mix of purple and blue like it looks in the bottle. Oh well, it's not too bad anyway.

For some reason, they painted the bottle of 237 an opaque silver when the actual nail polish inside is gold (as indicated by the sticker on top of the lid. It looks nice, but on its own it does look a bit meh, so I think it would look nicer in a nail design combined with one or more colours.

This is just my quick little review of this selection of nail polishes. Stargazer has a wonderful range of fab cosmetics at great prices, so I recommend you do check them out. I also bought a purple glitter shaker which I will be trying out sometime.

My girls day out at BITNM Live

Yesterday I went with my 17-year-old sister to Britain's Next Top Model Live, which is a big event happening all weekend at the ExCeL in the Docklands, London. We had standard tickets and I have to say, "London's Ultimate Girls' Day Out" it definitely was! It was pretty much heaven to the average girly girl who loves her shopping, hair, beauty and food, because this event was full of it. There was a big hall and it was basically a bit like an indoor market with lots of stalls selling products or advertising their services, and it was really nice to discover these new companies to keep in mind. I wrote down names of businesses in my phone and also collected lots of cards and leaflets. So when I get a job I might just go crazy with the spending :D.

Lil-Lets samples, Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture perfume sample, Cosmic Radiance by Britney Spears perfume sample, unbranded double-ended liquid and pencil eyeliner, Cosmopolitan magazine (November 2011 issue), Pomegranate and Elderflower flavour Bottle Green Still drink, Company magazine (November 2011 issue), White Glo Extra Strength Whitening Toothpaste, Wen Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner, small pack of Kleenex tissues

First of all, I bought a Company/Cosmopolitan goody bag, which contained the latest issues of both magazines as well as a selection of other goodies. And it was quite a bargain as I got all of this for just £3, especially considering that the Cosmopolitan magazine alone is usually worth more than that at £3.50!

I went to a Miss Selfridge stall where I entered a competition and then got given a few freebies, which are a an eco shopping bag, mini Tresemmé Moisture Rich Shampoo, and a Miss Selfridge gift card, which is worth anything between £5 and £100, on the only way for me to find out is to go to a Miss Selfridge store. Can't wait :)

A few more free samples I picked up on my travels around the stall include Cho-Yung Weight Loss Tea (though I'm not too sure I need to lose weight lol, but OK), another whitening toothpase, this one being MaxWhite One by Colgate, and Elemis FreshSkin samples that include a gentle face wash, purifying face mask, and daily moisturiser.

Free samples weren't all I got at the event though, as I did also buy a few things. One of them being a Body Smooth Refreshing Polish by Tropic Skin Care (the company owned and founded by Susan Ma of The Apprentice fame). My sister actually spotted Susan Ma somewhere in the crowd, but damn I managed to miss her. Anyway, we did get to test this body scrub and it exfoliates your skin well. The sales assistant even told me that you don't even need to moisturise after using it, which was true as my hands felt so soft after washing them. I bought this small tub for £10.

We came across an awesome cosmetics stall called Stargazer, and some of its products certainly lives up to its name. They had a few nail polishes that looked like galaxies, and one of them I bought (the third from left in the photo). This photo is rather terrible though but I'll do a proper separate post on them another time. These nail polishes are £2 each, but they were doing an offer of 3 for £5 and how could I resist with the amazing choices there were. I'd also been wanting some purple cosmetic glitter for a while, and I found this perfect one for £3.

At another makeup stall called BYS, I bought these pretty false eyelashes for £3.

BINTM Live wasn't just about all the shopping and goodies though, as we also got to sit down and watch question and answer sessions with BINTM judges Charlie Speed and Grace Woodward. And there was also the great catwalk show in a separate hall, where we got to see again the familiar beauties that are the former contestants from this year's series. As well as the BINTM girls, it was very entertaining seeing the male models/dancers doing their thing putting on a show whilst displaying great clothing. It was an amazing show with fab music performances from Bluey Robinson and Luminites. The only slight downside I have to the catwalk show is that I wish they'd had up on the screens the names of the designers up on the screens as that would have been awesome to know. Other than that I enjoyed what I saw.

Overall, BITNM was such an excellent event and I would definitely go again next year, only next time take more money as there is so much to buy!
